Spending a Vacation in Las Vegas

So far we invited you to gamble, visit resorts, museums and other “normal” activities while visiting the Sin City. How about trying some out of the ordinary new ideas? By that I mean visiting the Hoover Dam and take a tour of a factory.

After 9/11, security concerns changed a little the experience of visiting Hoover Dam and now the tours offer less access than before. However, the dam located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas is still considered a big attraction. Parking costs $5 and a tour costs $10 per person.

The giant dam is worth a few hours of your precious time. You can choose to take the fascinating tour and after that enjoy the marvelous view from the top. For lunch you can choose to go to Boulder City, a little town nearby or pack something in Las Vegas and stop for a picnic on the beach, at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. And if you like, you can fish, canoe, kayak or even water ski.

What about visiting a chocolate factory? About 20 miles from the Strip, in Henderson, you can find, among other odd factories, Ethel M Chocolates, which you can tour for free. Other place to visit (and wander at) in Henderson are Ron Lee’s World of Clowns where you can watch how workers paint smiles on creepy little clown statues. A few minutes from the Strip you can find National Vitamin Co., a factory that packs vitamins and which you can, of course, tour for free. And there is a shop at the end of the tour and according to folks the prices are excellent.
