Siegfried and Roy dedicated their lives to the preservation of lions, leopards and tigers and this is evident in the Secret Garden. The garden is set up as the animals’ natural habitat completed with jungle-themed music.
The pair’s efforts go back to early 1980s when they started a breeding program with the Zoological Society of Cincinnati, with only two white tigers and a tiger cup. Now there are almost 40 white tigers. Later, in 1995, the pair partnered with Johannesburg Zoological Gardens in South Africa and started a similar program for lions. Now they have almost 23 lions in their care.
But the lions and tigers have other friends in the Secret Garden, as well: a black panther, an Asian leopard, a snow leopard and an African leopard. The rarest animal is the heterozygous tiger.
