It’s Showtime in Vegas!

November 8th, 2007

The Entertainment Capital of the World is also home to some of the most popular shows in the world. Vegas is a place that offers you a million different ways to have fun and theatre is one of those. The city never sleeps, because people often run out of time to experience the best of Vegas.

In Las Vegas, show tickets are quite pricey. However, there are a few free shows for people who would want to spend their hard-earned money elsewhere. Some of the most popular shows cost $100 and above, for the best seats. If you wish to watch a show for free, you can step into the Dueling Pianos show at New York. If the cost is not an issue, the Elton John show at Caesar’s Palace is a great option. The Barry Manilow show at the Las Vegas Hilton is also quite expensive. However, the money you spend will be well worth the entertainment that these shows offer.

The variety of shows in Vegas is mind-boggling. Making a choice can often be a Herculean task, and people mostly end up watching more than one show in a single night. Some of the most popular shows in Vegas are Ka, Zumanity, Beatles LOVE, Rick Thomas Magic show, etc.

If you are looking to go with the crowd’s favorite, you must watch the Blue Man Group, organized at the Luxor. With a combination of exceptional music and slapstick comedy, crowds love it and you would, too.

The Chippendales is another popular show among the ladies. Organized at the Rio, the show is a great choice for an exciting evening in Vegas. For the kids, the Lance Burton magic show is the ideal choice. Held at the Monte Carlo, the show also appeals to the older generation.

The Beatles LOVE show is very special and if you are a Beatles fan, you would certainly have the time of your life. Although radically different from the dazzling and creative “Cirque De Soleil” shows, the Beatles LOVE has managed to carve a niche for itself. The show pays tribute to some of the most memorable Beatles hits. McCartney and Starr have helped in creating the song list, which also includes some of their less popular songs.

Vegas is a paradise for bachelors. The Las Vegas Show Girls is perhaps one of the most frequented shows in the Sin City. With its musical bonanza and topless girls, men will get a chance to be men again!! Infamous though it may be, the music and aerobics can make for a great bachelor’s party.

A Day Away From the Casino!

September 19th, 2007

It is a misconception that Vegas suits the palate of party animals and gamblers alone. In the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’, there are several alternatives to casinos and nightlife. If you seek some unadulterated, serene fun, you can visit the numerous tourist attractions that appeal to families and lovers of art.

If you are looking to spend some quality time appreciating art, visit the Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio. The exhibition has a fine artwork collection assembled from museums all over the world. The gallery has something new for art aficionados every time they visit this place. The Liberace Museum is another fine choice for artifact lovers. With an entrance fee of $6.50, the visit is worth every single penny.

The Imperial Palace Auto Collections is another fascinating art gallery. It has a reputation of showcasing the world’s biggest collection of antique and classic cars. If you have traveled all the way to Las Vegas for some classic fun, this place is a must-visit. And if you have a heavy wallet, you can even buy a few of these awesome beauties.

To spend some romantic time with your partner, you can visit the Eiffel Tower Replica. A vantage point that is built for a breathtaking view of the city, the tower also has a restaurant. It makes a wonderful choice for an anniversary dinner or any special occasion.

For the frissons, pay a visit to the Las Vegas Space Flights, a Boeing 727 simulated ride that recreates the experience of flying in space. The simulation is as close to the real thing as it can ever get. If you are still not content with the thrills that this ride offers, you would want to try Vegas Sky Diving. A fall of 10,000 feet can be truly ‘hair-raising’. A statutory warning here – if you are weak-hearted, stay away!

The thrills don’t stop here. You can take it further with the Big Shot at the Stratosphere Hotel. This is a ride where you would be thrown up 160 feet in the air in less than 2.5 seconds at 45 mph. The dive down to the launch pad can take your breath away, literally!

If the gambling capital doesn’t offer gaming classes, it would be a shame. If not for the gambling money, you can try these classes for fun. You can entertain yourselves and have fun at the same time with the 30 minute classes.

Las Vegas is popular for its replication of popular cities. You can experience a little of Italy in Vegas by embarking on a Venetian Gondola Ride across the Grand Canal. Sail across cafes, bridges, and sing a jolly song for a romantic Venetian experience.

Phi Phi – Paradise on Earth

September 4th, 2007

If you are a traveler who loves tropical islands, Phi Phi is a natural choice. This island is one of the most popular of all tropical islands in the world and is a prime tourist destination in Thailand. If you have watched the movie ‘The Beach’, you would vouch for the fact that this place is a pristine beauty.

With the new addition of the National Park, Phi Phi Islands are highly regarded by International travelers as a weekend getaway. These islands are around 17 miles from Phuket, another popular tourist location. The most attractive aspect of Phi Phi is the limestone composition of its hills and precipices. Characterized by steep cliffs, mysterious caves and inexplicably tiny trees sprouting out of crevices in the hills, Phi Phi is nature’s gift to man.

Phi Phi comprises two separate islets known as Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le. Phi Phi Don is the bigger of the two islets and offers the best of beaches and coral reefs. Exquisite guesthouses lined along the two exotic bays, Ton Sai and Lodalam, offer excellent accommodation for tourists. If you love water adventure, you can try some diving and snorkeling in the crystal clear seas around the Phi Phi Don.

Phi Phi Le is located half a mile to the south of Phi Phi Don. The only disappointment is that you are not allowed to visit this island without permission. Phi Phi Le is covered by trees and there is no beach as such in this island. However, you can visit a cave, which is the prime attraction here. Apparently, this cave was visited by the Vikings and is hence, named the Viking Cave. The cave is 50 foot high and prized by wildlife biologists for the numerous birds that nest inside.

If the main purpose of your visit is sea adventure, Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sama are two of the best places to visit in Phi Phi. These islands are popular for snorkeling inside coral formations. You can swim beside exotic water animals and relate to them on a level you have never done before. If it is beach excitement you seek, Ko Yung is a nice place for its blend of stony and sandy beaches set among scenic valleys. Coral reefs are again a lovely addition to this island. Phi Phi is a grand collection of the most spectacular beaches and you would love to visit this place every time you wish to take a break from your monotonous life.

Get Wild in a Different Way in Vegas

August 18th, 2007

Most people relate Vegas to the glittering Neon-lit Strip and the downtown Freemont experience. However, I discovered an entirely new dimension to Vegas on my last visit to this surreal paradise. Vegas caters not just to the desires of the party-freak but also the whims of a laid-back adventure buff.

I have always enjoyed an intimate relation with nature and wildlife. And when I visited Vegas, I had least expected this city to offer me anything natural, a contrast to its superficial lights and glitter. Nevertheless, I was delectably surprised when I paid a visit to The Mirage/Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden. This place is Eden amid concrete jungle, and a fantasy come alive. With a tropical ambience, replete with palm groves and dense foliage, you get transported to the seventh heaven.

The stand-out feature of the Mirage is the White Tiger. This place is a natural habitat to the mutated cousin to the world’s largest cat – the majestic Tiger. Extremely rare, the white tigers add an exotic feel to this wonderful place. It is not just the tiger that makes this place special. You will be greeted with a 53 foot long aquarium at the reception that houses some of the most exquisite marine creatures on earth. A near-perfect replication of the Coral Reefs, this aquarium will hold you spell-bound. In addition to this, you will be treated to a truly adventurous experience in the tropical rain forest that is home to some of the most beautiful birds on this planet, including the graceful Bird of Paradise. The beauty of this forest is accentuated by the brilliantly recreated lagoon and the enchanting Orchids and Bromeliads.

Contradicting the saying ‘good things don’t come for free,’ the Shark Reef is a dream come true for wildlife enthusiasts. You come face to face with the deadliest and the largest predator on earth – The Great White Shark. Although enclosed in a sealed glass aquarium, these sharks can be truly intimidating. For the first time in my life, I realized man has never been the hunter. Encounters with these deadly predators can send a chill down your spine for sure. If you’re not content with just the sharks, you can watch other aquatic species housed in the same Mandalay Bay aquarium. In addition to the 12 shark species, there are 100 other aquatic species inside the aquarium, including reptiles and turtles.

People who think Las Vegas is only for the boisterous, you must pay a visit to these exotic attractions. You will be truly overwhelmed.

Vegas – The Night Owl’s Paradise!

July 27th, 2007

Las Vegas is a city that doesn’t follow the rules of dawn and dusk. The nights in Vegas are long and wild and the daytime is adventurous. The fun in this city never ends. If you seek non-stop entertainment, there are few cities that can outshine Vegas. For the night owl, Vegas offers unlimited entertainment in the form of nightclubs, bars, casinos, etc. And the variety is so extensive that the only trouble you would ever face in Vegas is selecting the right place to go. There are several options for you to pick from if you wish to spend a memorable night in Vegas.

If you seek some unbridled fun, Coyote Ugly is the place for you. This night club is the ideal drinking joint for college-goers. It is characterized by its Southern-style with no chairs or stools, and has wooden floors and walls for the typical ‘no holds barred’ experience. The music is mostly loud, with the contemporary or classic feel. Step into this joint if you wish to step out of your ‘gentleman’ skin.

‘Late Night at the House of Blues’ is a great place to visit if you enjoy variety in music. All through the week, the joint’s supremely talented DJ’s vary the music to suit your moods. From Flashback Fridays and Purple Reign on Sundays to Rockstar Karaoke on Mondays and Boogie Nights on Saturdays, you have it all. The mood is set by organizing the events in different rooms that complement the music. And it would be ridiculous not to include some actual blues in a ‘House of Blues’. So, the Wednesday nights with ‘Nothing But the Blues’ are something to look forward to.

For a 1920s speakeasy feel, you must step in to the ‘Ivan Kane’s Forty Deuce’. Located close to the Mandalay Bay Resort, the club is dimly lit and has a sultry air that perfectly complements the sexy women sashaying on the dance floor. The DJs of the club keep you entertained with some lively hip-hop music. The club is pretty small so you might want to drop in early to get the best view from the front of the floor.

If you seek sophistication and subtlety, you could try the I-Bar. The natural elements – earth, rock and water along with some upscale lighting lend this bar its soulful air. In addition to these, you could also visit nightclubs like the Empire Ballroom, the Ghostbar, the Tangerine, and the Rumjungle. These are a few of the best nightclubs in Vegas.

Traveling to Vegas on a Shoestring Budget? No Problem!

July 21st, 2007

All that glitters is not as expensive as gold. I am not very sure about the rest of the world, but in Las Vegas you can entertain yourselves even when you are not carrying a lot of cash. Las Vegas is a place that caters to every budget and every taste. And, regardless of the amount of money you spend, this place offers you absolute entertainment. A few of the free attractions that Vegas offers are discussed below.

The Thunderstorm at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino is a computer generated thunderstorm that strikes the hallway of the Desert Passage shopping mall. It replicates a thunderstorm striking a North African seaport, with rain, booming thunder and lightning. The Thunderstorm show is located at the Merchants’ Harbor section of the mall.

The Fountains at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino is an outdoor show with fountains, lights and sound. This spectacular show features 1200 nozzles and 4500 dazzling lights lined up along the quarter mile long lake stretch between the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. The glittery fountains dance to the tunes of the music that fills the air and this is perhaps one of the best free attractions in Vegas. Do not miss it.

The Hawaiian Marketplace Performers offers you the best of Hawaiian fun, with a troupe of Polynesian performers singing, dancing, narrating stories and demonstrating Polynesian island crafts at the Hawaiian Marketplace shopping mall all through the day. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, you can enjoy shows featuring fire knife dancers, Samoan singers, Tahitian dancers as well as a live bird show.

The Sunset Stampede at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino is also an attractive show that features an animatronic, laser light and water fountain choreographed to a western pioneer theme. It takes place in Mystic Falls Park, which is an indoor forest with a glass ceiling ten stories high. Sam’s town is located around 6 miles east of the Strip.

The Rock and Roll Memorabilia at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino showcases collectibles from all your favorite rock and roll stars, including Beatles collectibles, Madonna’s underwear, motorcycles from Guns N Roses’ Matt Sorum and Motley Crew’s Nikki Six, autographed guitars and drum sets from many bands and leather jackets from Aerosmith and the Ramones.

The Mirage Hotel and Casino features a 20,000-gallon saltwater aquarium in its lobby. This is an additional attraction to its tropical theme. The aquarium, which is 53 feet long, eight feet from top to bottom, and six feet from front to back, houses over 1,000 coral reef animals like angelfish, puffer fish, tangs, sharks and other sea creatures. As you walk along the lobby, you can watch these exotic sea creatures swimming through the reef.

If you are in Vegas, you never have to worry about your expenditure. Vegas promises unadulterated fun for any budget.

Las Vegas – Not All Glitz and Neon

July 7th, 2007

Outdoor entertainment is the last thing on your mind when you visit Vegas, which is popular for its glitzy nightlife. All you are thinking of is visiting the bars, casinos and nightclubs here and party wild and hard. However, you are in for a surprise because Vegas has a lot more to offer than just nightlife. Las Vegas has the best of all worlds. It is not just a neon oasis, but also a place for some great outdoor adventure. You could choose from a variety of options like outdoor excursions, national parks, sports-related activities and many more.

The Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife lover’s delight. This place is home to around 24 native species that are not found anywhere in the world. The most famous among them all is the endangered pupfish. The refuge has limits on swimming and driving. However, you can swim at the Crystal Reservoir, which is also a good place for boating. You can also draw pleasure from nature trails and go picnicking with your family and friends. The refuge is also a great spot for wildlife and landscape photography.

For the sports and water enthusiasts, Las Vegas has some excellent places for hiking, skiing, sledding and boating. The Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston are two of the best places for hiking. You can also go skiing and sledding, during winter, in Mt. Charleston. The Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, is a place you should not miss if you love boat and jet skiing. Since it is located at the center of three ecosystems, the Mojave, the Sonoran deserts and the Great Basin, Lake Mead is also a lovely place to view wildlife. In winter, the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard resort is a must-visit for the skiers and snowboarders. In addition to these, there are plenty of other adventure locations like the Valley of Fire, the Hoover Dam, etc.

The unadulterated adrenaline rush that one feels in a fast car is incomparable. The pure thrill of sitting in a NASCAR-styled race car is electrifying. And, this ultimate experience is offered in Las Vegas’ Richard Petty Driving Experience. A trip to the Las Vegas Speedway is followed by a real-life racing experience in a NASCAR-style race car, where professional instructors drive you through the speedway at speeds of over 150 mph. And, to preserve the memories of this memorable experience, you can get photo packages and racing merchandise at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway store. And, if you’re looking for something faster and more thrilling, you should visit the Mario Andretti Champ Ride. You will be driven around in a race car by professional instructors at speeds well over 180 mph. The G-forces that you will experience for the first time in your life will make your trip to Vegas unforgettable.

If you have been a sports buff all your life, Las Vegas provide the ultimate gratification. One among Las Vegas’ many epithets is ‘Boxing Capital of the World’, not for organizing boxing bouts but for the number of high-profile competitions that take place here, all year long. Las Vegas is the venue for the most prestigious Rodeo event – The National Finals Rodeo. You can also catch the action of the PGA Tour, a preseason NBA game or watch NHL’s Frozen Fury event. For a virtual gaming experience, head to the ESPN Zone, which has virtual reality games, video games and also a mini bowling alley. If you are not game for a real skydiving experience, you can try the Flyaway Indoor Skydiving.

In Vegas, there is no dull moment. If you are looking for wonderful outdoorsy fun, Las Vegas is a great choice. Head to Vegas and have the fun of your life.
