Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage
Location: Mirage Hotel-Casino, on the Strip, between Flamingo and Spring Mountain Road.
Hours of operation: Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Dolphin Habitat is a tropical oasis which provides both entertaining and educational experiences for the visitors. The animals are not trained and there aren’t any scheduled performances.
The facility includes a 22 foot deep viewing tank, with both an outdoor and underground viewing area. It replicates the dolphins’ natural habitat and includes a man-made reef and a sandy bottom.
The habitat is home to seven Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Duchess is the oldest dolphin (28 years) and she is the mother to four other dolphins.
The staff and the habitat possess a lot of information about these amazing mammals. You will learn a lot, including the fact that they nurse their newborn calves.
The facility offers the visitor a chance to be a dolphin trainer. Every day, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., accompanied by the staff, you can play with the dolphins and feed them. You can also have your photo taken in various locations in the habitat and at the end of the day they will put the photos on the CD to take them as souvenir. For this occasion, the fees are $500 per person (maximum 2 persons or one family).
